Since Oak Leaf styling affects appearance only, this Oak Leaf alto triple is identical to our standard Triple AC in playability and ergonomics. This particular ocarina, however, differs from our standard Triple AC in a couple important aspects:The second chamber has no slide-cover double hole at the index finger position. Instead, the top B/C hole is moved to the underside of the ocarina to be covered by the right thumb. This configuration is popularly known as "Japanese" or "Osawa" fingering. Many players prefer this fingering since the slide-cover can be a little cumbersome during rapid note transitions.All four holes in the third chamber play a full diatonic note. In a standard triple C ocarina, the third chamber pinky hole plays a C# when covered along with the other three holes. However, in this ocarina, covering that pinky hole plays a D; then the C# just below that D is played by further covering the third chamber subhole. What this means is that this ocarina increases the third chamber range by a full note. The pinky hole is not "wasted" playing a half-tone. Building the third chamber to play four full diatonic notes is extremely challenging, and this is why triple chamber alto ocarinas have been and still are produced with the half-tone pinky hole. As such, this ocarina may well be a one-of-a-kind! This ocarina was painted an acrylic gray base touched with metallic red.
